the printmaking workshop

Joan Giordano’s work on paper starts with rolling international newspapers in many languages. After assembling them into compositions, they are photographed and projected onto a lithographic plate. The image is burned onto the plate itself with acid. Paper is then rolled through the press with ink applied to the metal plate to transfer the litho itself to the paper. Various handmade Asian papers are printed on and then layered together. After years of working with Robert Blackburn at the Printmaking Workshop since the 1980’s, Joan’s work continues to evolve today.
